2011 Application and Examination Fees

As of August 3, 2011, the ABS no longer accepts check payments for application and examination fees (in-training and Surgery of the hand examinations excluded).

To avoid the late application fee, the following must arrive/be submitted by the application deadline: online application form, operative report (if required), signature form with all required original signatures (no copies or faxes), and non-refundable application fee.

All fees are subject to change. Any checks should be made payable to "The American Board of Surgery." A $50 fee is charged for all returned checks.


Refund Policy
Application fees are non-refundable. Examination fees for computer-based exams will be refunded minus a $220 processing fee if the examinee withdraws more than 15 business days before the first day of the exam window. If an examinee withdraws fewer than 15 business days prior or fails to appear for the exam, the entire exam fee is forfeited. Examination fees for oral examinations are non-refundable.
